A downloadable game

Development build of 2up, a take on the single-screen multiplayer games of yore, for Playdate. For this proof-of-concept, modes inspired by Spacewar, Pong, Combat, and the Biplanes mode from Intellivision's Triple Action are included, and are freely selectable. The intended experience (on by default) is the Shuffle mode, which increasingly randomizes and recombines these games. This yields some pretty good mismatches.

This is two-player only, with each player holding half of the Playdate's controls. Analogue control for the left player (as applicable) is provided via tilt. Details on control are displayed on the menu screen.

Many, many more games, alternate modes (eg steerable shots, invisible tanks) and levels will be dumped into this blender if anyone wants this. Anything from 1982 or earlier is potentially fair game.

Install instructions

While you can play this on the Playdate Simulator included in the Playdate SDK and splitting a gamepad (left stick for accelerometer, right stick for crank), the game and its control scheme are built around the physical Playdate device. Install using the standard Playdate sideload process, registering your device and then uploading this zip file to your machine at https://play.date/account/sideload/.
